Student Finance England & Admissions Explained
Straight answers to the questions we hear most from prospective domestic students planning their university funding and enrolment for 2026/27.
Maintenance Loans assist with day-to-day costs like rent, transport, and study materials. The loan amount is means-tested based on your household income and living arrangements:
- Living with parents: Up to £9,118 per year.
- Living away from parents (Outside London): Up to £10,830 per year.
- Living away from parents (In London): Up to £14,135 per year.
The Maintenance Loan is transferred directly into your personal UK bank account in three termly instalments.
Students starting an undergraduate course repay their combined tuition and maintenance loans under Plan 5 terms:
- You only begin repaying once your pre-tax income exceeds £25,000 per year.
- You pay 9% on any income earned above the £25,000 mark (e.g. if you earn £28,000, you pay 9% on £3,000 = £22.50 per month).
- Repayments are deducted automatically from your payroll like tax.
- Any remaining balance is completely cancelled and written off after 40 years.
Our partner institutions offer career-aligned, accredited undergraduate degree programmes (available as 3-year standard or 4-year foundation degrees), specialising in:
- BA (Hons) Business Management / Leadership
- BSc (Hons) Health & Social Care / Public Health
- BSc (Hons) Computing / Information Technology / Cyber Security
All programmes are structured to prepare adult returners and career-changers for the practical demands of the modern workforce.
We specialise in face-to-face, human consultations rather than automated chatbots. You can meet with an advisor in person at our physical hubs:

- Birmingham Hub: Heath Court 489, Coventry Road, Birmingham, B10 0JS
We also provide remote consultations for domestic students living in Manchester, Leicester, and Bradford.
Applying for SFE involves four basic steps:
- Register an account online at GOV.UK.
- Provide identity verification (e.g. valid UK Passport number or share code for digital status).
- Select your intended course and university (this can be updated later if needed).
- Provide household income details (such as P60 or tax returns) if applying for a Maintenance Loan.
Our team checks your documents at our offices before submission to avoid processing delays or missing payments.
